Hailing from cities with large Jewish communities in Sydney and London, Rabbi Avrohom and Cheina Dyce will be moving to Gresham to enhance the city's Jewish presence.

Motivated by love and inspired by the vision of the Lubavitcher Rebbe that every place throughout the world have a warm community center and Synagogue where everyone is made to feel welcome and comfortable, the Chabad Jewish Center seeks to strengthen the local Jewish community by promoting Jewish pride, education and celebration.

In August 2019 the Dyce family moved to Portland to teach at Maimonides Jewish Day School and began reaching out to local Jewish people via social media. They welcomed soon after their young daughters, Mushka and then Rochel, who bring smiles to all those who encounter them.

The Dyce's have already made contact with close to 100 Jewish families who have expressed their interest and excitement for the establishment of a local Chabad House. In recent months dozens of residents participated in classes and programs via Zoom and received home visits affixing Mezuzah's on their doors and receiving Jewish information.

As Covid 19 restrictions lift the timing is right for the Jews of Gresham to have a community to call their own.
